Chiba Shrine's Summer Festival "Myoken Festival"
The biggest festival at Chiba Shrine is the annual summer festival, Myoken Taisai.
This festival has been held without interruption since its first event in 1127, and preparations are underway for the 900th event this year, in the 8th year of the Reiwa era.
During this festival, the portable shrine leaves the shrine on the first day, August 16th, stays for a week at a temporary shrine at the foot of Inohanayama mountain, and returns to the shrine on the final day, August 22nd (the 22nd is Myoken-sama's auspicious day).
The festival lasts for seven days because it is a prayer festival in which people make wishes to each of the seven stars of the Big Dipper, which is one of the forms of Myoken-sama.
Therefore, there is a saying that if you make a single wish during this week, it will surely come true, and the festival is also known as the "Hitotokoto Myoken Festival."
