Flower Festival

At Jushun-in Temple, we hold a flower festival every year from 10:4 am on April 8th. If you are visiting, please enjoy some sweet tea.

Mountain scenery

Depending on the season, the crape myrtles and ginkgo trees on the grounds of Jushun-in Temple take on beautiful colors. At the adjacent Ikumi Pond, cherry blossoms and lotus flowers bloom, and kingfishers occasionally appear.

Jushun-in Temple Main Hall

In the main hall, annual memorial services for parishioners, memorial services for Morikawayama Cemetery parishioners, various equinox services, and a large almsgiving service are held in the summer. In addition, a memorial reading for the communal grave is held at the autumn equinox service.

A sacred place surrounded by water and green trees

Morikawayama Shigetoshi-in Temple is the family temple built by the second lord, Shigemasa, to commemorate the soul of Morikawa Dewa-no-kami Shigetoshi, the first lord of the Ikumi domain, who died fighting for the Tokugawa shogunate's second shogun, Hidetada. Shigetoshi was a fudai daimyo who established his jin'ya in Ikumi in 1627 (Kan'ei 4) and was awarded 7,000 koku of land in the Ikumi area, as well as 10,000 koku of land from the eastern and Sagami territories combined. In 1632, he was appointed as an important senior official in the Nishimaru under Shogun Hidetada. The following year, in the middle of the night on January 24th, 1632 (Kan'ei 9), he followed Shogun Hidetada and committed suicide. The second lord, Shigemasa, built a grave to the west of the jin'ya, and in 1633, he was allocated 20 koku of temple land and had a tombstone over 3 meters high made of Izu Komatsu stone erected. From then on, the Morikawa clan ruled the Ikumi domain for 245 years, spanning 12 generations, until the abolition of the feudal domains and the establishment of prefectures in 1871, and maintained Morikawasan Shigetoshi-in Temple as the family temple of the feudal lord and his family.
