Tenpukuji Temple Tempukuji
Based on existing documents, Tenpukuji Temple was built in the early Kamakura period and is believed to have been founded by Chiba Tokitane. The principal image of the temple, the Eleven-Headed Kannon Bodhisattva, is the only Buddhist statue in the city that is clearly inscribed as having been made before the Kamakura period, and is currently a secret Buddha statue that is only opened to pilgrims once every 33 years.
